University College School Hampstead - Spaceoasis

University College School Hampstead

The new sixth form centre and library at University College School Hampstead (UCS) were both designed by Lewandowski Architects, a practice which continually raises the bar with its innovative approach to educational environments. They, like Spaceoasis, believe in the power of environments to shape the learning experience and we have worked with them on a number of projects over recent years.

For this award-winning project at UCS, the architect team took a poorly-lit and inflexible library and transformed it into the AKO Centre, a bright and vibrant space with a variety of co-working areas that offer learners choice and agency, alongside 20,000 volumes, journals and online access to academic journals.

Inverurie Community Campus was named Development of the Year (Public Buildings) at the Scottish Property Awards 2021.

The new AKO Sixth Form Centre at UCS demonstrates sustainable, biophilic and student-informed design and includes a café, classroom, offices, study areas and a relaxation zone. When visiting the school in 2021 one ISI Inspector described the sixth form centre as “an anteroom to undergraduate life”.

Spaceoasis supplied unique furniture solutions using our LiquidDesign approach which enables clients to specify bespoke sizes, finishes and even shapes rather than being restricted to standard ‘off the shelf’ products. Our LiquidDesign approach helped deliver the architect’s vision on both of these projects, value-engineering and solving problems along the way to ensure a unique and perfect finish.

Inverurie Community Campus was named Development of the Year (Public Buildings) at the Scottish Property Awards 2021.

From the dramatic black and blue booth seating in the library, to the bright orange and powder blue edged flip-top tables, we manufactured and installed unique products specified by the architect.

These included: a large elliptical LearningSurface® writable table for collaborative work, which was bespoke-designed for this project; the Edge range booths with special features including a black under-structure and unique table shape; Clak tables with LearningSurface® writable worksurface and bespoke colour edges that make them ‘pop’ against an otherwise neutral colour palette; unique shelving designed to accommodate awkward shapes, pipes and services.

In the sixth form centre Spaceoasis supplied square, circular and rectangular booth tables (to complement the booth seating run), all with bespoke-colour edges to lend contrasting but complimentary colours to a neutral scheme and the large Dwell sofa arrangement, which provides a great space to gather and socialise that looks sleek and modern, to suit this contemporary space.
